Memorial Day 2013 Roosevelt Lake

We decided to head to Roosevelt Lake for Memorial Day again! This time we camped two nights! There were no bees, but we ran into a rattlesnake and a gila monster! It was another adventure!
The first day was filled with swimming, fishing, boating and knee boarding!  Owen was not a huge fan of the knee boarding, but we forced him to go any way!  Payton has turned into a knee boarding expert! She even pulled herself up to her knees and loved every second!!

The Rattlesnake Tale!
Nate went to wash his hand at the water spout and ran into this rattlesnake.  It was pretty crazy because the snake didn't rattle at all.  Nate pointed him out to all of us at the camp and we watched it for a while.  It didn't seem threatened, which was also kind of weird.  Then the McBride boys started throwing rocks at it, which of course made it mad and start rattling it's tale.  It was a sound I had never heard before. I could not believe how loud it was! We all decided that their were too many kids around to let it go in the camp, so Chamber McBride killed it with a shovel, cut off it's head, and buried the head.  Then he decided to skin it, gut it, cook it, and eat it!  Owen and Payton were amazed! These awesome boys then, gave the rattle from the tail to Owen, which he will keep forever!

Next we saw a Gila Monster! It was huge, just crawling across the road, but unfortunately, they are very poisonous as well!

Always an adventure at Roosevelt!
